Chana Saag
Chana Saag is a wholesome Indian curry made with tender chickpeas (chana) and fresh spinach (saag) cooked in a fragrant blend of spices. Rich, nutritious, and full of flavor, this dish is perfect for a healthy meal and pairs wonderfully with roti, naan, or steamed rice.
Cooking Method
- Prepare Ingredients: Wash and chop fresh spinach. Soak chickpeas overnight or use canned chickpeas for quick cooking.
- Cook Chickpeas: Boil the chickpeas until soft. Drain and set aside.
- Sauté Aromatics: Heat oil in a pan. Add finely chopped onions and sauté until golden. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Add Spices & Tomatoes: Mix in cumin seeds, turmeric, coriander powder, garam masala, and chopped tomatoes. Cook until tomatoes soften.
- Combine Spinach & Chickpeas: Add chopped spinach and cooked chickpeas to the pan. Stir well to combine.
- Simmer: Add water or vegetable broth to adjust consistency. Cover and simmer for 8-10 minutes.
- Finish & Serve: Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and a squeeze of lemon. Serve hot with roti, naan, or rice.
