Easy Indian-Style Shakshuka (Makhani Shakshuka)
Indian-Style Shakshuka, also called Makhani Shakshuka, is a vibrant and flavorful twist on the classic Middle Eastern dish. Eggs are poached in a rich, spiced tomato and butter (makhani) sauce, infused with garam masala, ginger, and garlic. This hearty and comforting dish is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or even a light dinner, offering a fusion of Indian flavors in every bite.
Cooking Method
- Heat 1 tbsp oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste and sauté for 30 seconds.
- Add 1 cup chopped tomatoes and cook until soft and pulpy.
- Stir in 1 tsp garam masala, ½ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp chili powder, and salt to taste. Simmer for 3–4 minutes.
- Reduce heat to low and make small wells in the sauce. Crack 2–4 eggs into the wells.
- Cover and cook for 5–7 minutes, until the eggs are poached to your liking.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro or coriander leaves and a drizzle of cream (optional).
- Serve hot with naan, roti, or crusty bread.
