Soft on the inside with a golden crust, this dessert is full of warmth and sweetness, making it ideal for festive occasions, family gatherings, or a cozy treat after dinner. The luxurious butter rum sauce adds a deliciously boozy, caramel-like finish to every bite.
Cooking Method
- Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F) and lightly grease a baking dish.
- Cut stale bread into cubes and place them in the prepared dish.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together milk, cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
- Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread cubes, pressing gently to ensure all pieces are soaked. Let it sit for 10–15 minutes.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes or until the custard is set and the top is golden brown.
- While the pudding bakes, prepare the butter rum sauce: In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, then add brown sugar, cream, and rum. Stir until smooth and slightly thickened.
- Serve the warm bread pudding drizzled generously with the butter rum sauce.
