Moroccan Kefta Tagine.PNG 236.64 KB
Moroccan Kefta Tagine is a classic North African dish featuring seasoned meatballs simmered in a rich tomato sauce infused with aromatic Moroccan spices. Originating in Morocco, this beloved recipe is traditionally cooked in a tagine, the iconic clay cooking vessel that gives the dish its name.

The kefta (meatballs) are made from ground beef or lamb mixed with fresh herbs, garlic, and spices such as cumin, paprika, and coriander. They are gently cooked in a flavorful tomato sauce until tender and juicy. In many traditional versions, eggs are cracked directly into the sauce near the end of cooking, adding extra richness and authenticity.

Moroccan Kefta Tagine is typically served with fresh bread or Moroccan Khobz, making it a hearty and satisfying meal enjoyed by families across Morocco.

Cooking Method

  1.  In a bowl, combine all kefta ingredients and mix well.
  2.  Shape the mixture into small meatballs.
  3.  Heat olive oil in a tagine or skillet over medium heat.
  4.  Add the tomatoes, garlic, paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper.
  5.  Simmer the sauce for 10–15 minutes until slightly thickened.
  6.  Carefully place the meatballs into the sauce.
  7.  Cover and cook for 20–25 minutes.
  8.  Turn the meatballs occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  9.  Crack the eggs into the sauce during the final 5 minutes if desired.
  10.  Serve hot with Moroccan bread.
