Ugandan Rolex is one of the most famous street foods in Uganda. Despite its name, it has nothing to do with watches. The name "Rolex" comes from the phrase "rolled eggs," referring to a freshly cooked omelet rolled inside a soft chapati. This simple yet delicious snack is a staple of Ugandan street food culture and is enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or as a quick snack. 

The dish typically combines eggs, onions, tomatoes, cabbage, and other vegetables, which are cooked into an omelet and then wrapped in a warm chapati. Portable, affordable, and flavorful, the Ugandan Rolex has become a symbol of Uganda’s vibrant food scene and is loved by locals and visitors alike. 

Easy to prepare and highly customizable, Rolex is a perfect meal on the go and a must-try East African favorite. 

Cooking Method


  1.  Crack the eggs into a bowl. 
  2.  Add the onion, tomato, cabbage, green pepper, cilantro, salt, and black pepper. 
  3.  Whisk until well combined. 
  4.  Heat a lightly oiled skillet over medium heat. 
  5.  Pour a portion of the egg mixture into the pan. 
  6.  Cook until the omelet is set on both sides. 
  7.  Warm a chapati separately. 
  8.  Place the cooked omelet on top of the chapati. 
  9.  Roll the chapati tightly around the omelet. 
  10.  Serve immediately while hot.
