Poulet DG is a rich, colorful, and flavorful Cameroonian dish made with tender chicken, ripe plantains, and vegetables cooked in a savory tomato-based sauce. The name "DG" stands for "Directeur Général," reflecting its reputation as a special and elegant meal often served at celebrations and family gatherings in Cameroon. 

This hearty dish combines juicy chicken pieces with sweet fried plantains, carrots, bell peppers, green beans, and aromatic seasonings. The vegetables and chicken are simmered together in a flavorful sauce, creating a perfect balance of savory and sweet flavors. The addition of plantains gives the dish its signature taste and texture, making it both comforting and satisfying. 

Poulet DG is perfect for lunch, dinner, or festive occasions and is one of the most beloved dishes in Cameroonian cuisine. 

Cooking Method


  1.  Season the chicken with salt, pepper, and paprika. 
  2.  Cook or lightly fry the chicken until golden. 
  3.  Fry the plantain slices until golden brown and set aside. 
  4.  Heat oil in a large pan and sauté onion and garlic. 
  5.  Add tomatoes, bell pepper, carrots, and green beans. 
  6.  Cook until the vegetables begin to soften. 
  7.  Return the chicken to the pan and mix well. 
  8.  Add a small amount of water and simmer until flavorful. 
  9.  Stir in the fried plantains just before serving. 
  10.  Serve hot.
