South Korean Tteokbokki Recipe | Authentic Spicy Korean Rice Cakes

 Tteokbokki is one of the most famous street foods from South Korea. This beloved dish features chewy Korean rice cakes simmered in a rich, spicy, and slightly sweet sauce made with gochujang (Korean chili paste), gochugaru (Korean chili flakes), soy sauce, and a savory broth. Often served with fish cakes and boiled eggs, Tteokbokki offers a perfect balance of spicy, sweet, and umami flavors that make it a favorite comfort food throughout Korea. 

Whether enjoyed as a snack, lunch, or light dinner, this authentic Korean recipe is quick to prepare and brings the vibrant flavors of Korean street food right to your home. 

Cooking Method


  1.  Soak the rice cakes in warm water for 15–20 minutes if they are refrigerated or frozen. 
  2.  In a large pan, bring the broth to a gentle boil. 
  3.  Stir in the gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, sugar, and minced garlic until fully dissolved. 
  4.  Add the rice cakes and cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally. 
  5.  Add the sliced fish cakes and continue cooking for another 3–5 minutes until the sauce thickens. 
  6.  Stir in the sesame oil. 
  7.  Add the boiled eggs during the last 2 minutes of cooking, if using. 
  8.  Garnish with green onions, sesame seeds, or mozzarella cheese if desired. 
  9.  Serve hot and enjoy immediately.
