  1.  In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it rest for 5–10 minutes until foamy. 
  2.  In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread flour and salt. 
  3.  Add the yeast mixture, egg, and softened butter to the flour. 
  4.  Mix until a soft dough begins to form. 
  5.  Knead the dough for 10–12 minutes until smooth, soft, and elastic. 
  6.  Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, turning it once to coat all sides. 
  7.  Cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1½ hours, or until doubled in size. 
  8.  Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf, rolls, or buns. 
  9.  Arrange the shaped dough in a greased baking pan or on a baking tray. 
  10.  Cover and let it rise again for 40–50 minutes until puffy. 
  11.  Brush the top with a little milk or beaten egg for a shiny finish (optional). 
  12.  Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown. 
  13.  Remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack before serving.
