Classic Aloo (Potato) Singara – Bangladeshi Style

Classic Aloo Singara is a traditional Bangladeshi snack made with a crispy, flaky pastry filled with spiced mashed potatoes. Often enhanced with peanuts, green peas, and aromatic spices, this vegetarian delight is a staple during tea-time and festive occasions. Its crunchy exterior and soft, flavorful filling make it one of the most loved street foods across Bangladesh and India.

Step 1: Prepare Dough
 

  •  Mix flour with a pinch of salt and 1 tbsp oil. 
  •  Add water gradually and knead into a firm dough. 
  •  Cover and let it rest for 20 minutes. 


Step 2: Prepare Aloo Filling
 

  •  Heat oil in a pan. 
  •  Add chopped onions and sauté until soft. 
  •  Add ginger paste and cook for a minute. 
  •  Add green peas and cook for 2–3 minutes. 
  •  Add mashed potatoes, green chilies, garam masala, and salt. 
  •  Mix well and cook for a few minutes until flavors combine. 
  •  Let the mixture cool. 


Step 3: Shape Singara
 

  •  Divide dough into small balls and roll into thin circles. 
  •  Cut into halves and form cone shapes. 
  •  Fill with potato mixture and seal edges with water. 


Step 4: Fry Singara
 

  •  Heat oil on medium-low flame. 
  •  Deep fry until crispy and golden brown. 


Step 5: Serve
 

  •  Serve hot with tamarind chutney or mint chutney.
