Debla is a classic festive dessert from Tunisia, especially popular during Ramadan, Eid, weddings, and family celebrations. This elegant pastry is made by rolling thin sheets of dough into beautiful flower or ribbon shapes, deep-frying them until perfectly crisp and golden, then coating them in warm honey flavored with orange blossom water. The result is a delicate dessert with a light, crunchy texture and a fragrant floral sweetness. 

Authentic Tunisian Debla is cherished for its eye-catching appearance and irresistible flavor. Often garnished with sesame seeds or chopped pistachios, these honey-glazed pastries pair wonderfully with mint tea or Arabic coffee. Whether you're exploring traditional Tunisian cuisine or preparing desserts for a special occasion, Debla is a delightful treat that combines simplicity with elegance. 

Cooking Method


  1.  In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. 
  2.  Add the melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and orange blossom water. 
  3.  Gradually add the warm water and knead until a smooth, elastic dough forms. 
  4.  Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes. 
  5.  Roll the dough out very thin on a lightly floured surface. 
  6.  Cut the dough into long strips and shape each strip into decorative flower or ribbon patterns by folding and pinching the layers together. 
  7.  Heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep frying pan. 
  8.  Fry the pastries in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden and crisp. 
  9.  Remove and drain on paper towels. 
  10.  In a small saucepan, gently warm the honey with the orange blossom water and lemon juice. 
  11.  Dip each warm pastry into the honey syrup, coating it evenly. 
  12.  Place on a wire rack to allow excess honey to drain. 
  13.  Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and chopped pistachios or almonds. 
  14.  Allow the pastries to cool slightly before serving.
