Cabo Verdean Lagostada is a classic seafood dish featuring tender lobster cooked in a rich garlic butter sauce with tomatoes, herbs, and aromatic spices. Popular along the Cape Verdean coast, this elegant recipe showcases the fresh flavors of the Atlantic Ocean and is perfect for celebrations, family dinners, or special occasions.

Fresh lobster is gently cooked until tender, then combined with sautéed onions, garlic, ripe tomatoes, and sweet bell peppers to create a flavorful sauce. A touch of paprika and fresh herbs enhances the natural sweetness of the lobster without overpowering it.

The buttery tomato sauce coats every piece of lobster, creating a rich and satisfying dish with vibrant island flavors. Served with steamed rice, boiled potatoes, or crusty bread, it makes a complete and memorable meal.

Cabo Verdean Lagostada is simple to prepare yet impressive enough for entertaining, making it a favorite among seafood lovers.

Cooking Method

  1.  Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2.  Sauté the onion until soft and translucent.
  3.  Add the garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  4.  Stir in the tomatoes, bell pepper, tomato paste, paprika, and bay leaf. Cook for 5–7 minutes until the vegetables soften.
  5.  Add the lobster pieces and gently coat them with the sauce.
  6.  Cover and cook for 10–12 minutes, turning the lobster once, until the meat is opaque and fully cooked.
  7.  Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  8.  Stir in the lemon juice and fresh parsley.
  9.  Remove the bay leaf before serving.
  10.  Serve hot with steamed rice, boiled potatoes, or crusty bread.
