Glazed doughnut are a timeless bakery favorite, loved for their pillowy-soft texture, light golden crust, and sweet vanilla glaze that melts into every bite. Made with a rich yeast dough, these homemade donuts are fried until perfectly fluffy and then dipped in a glossy sugar glaze while still warm. The result is an irresistibly tender donut with a delicate sweetness that rivals your favorite bakery.

Classic Glazed Donuts are perfect for breakfast, brunch, dessert, or an afternoon treat with coffee or tea. The dough is enriched with milk, butter, eggs, and a touch of vanilla, creating a soft and airy interior. After frying, each donut is coated in a smooth glaze made from powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and butter, giving it the iconic shiny finish and melt-in-your-mouth flavor.

These donuts can also be customized with cinnamon sugar, chocolate glaze, maple icing, or colorful sprinkles. Whether you're making them for a weekend breakfast, holiday celebration, birthday party, or simply to satisfy a sweet craving, homemade glazed donuts are always a crowd-pleaser.

Although they require time for the dough to rise, the process is simple and rewarding. Freshly made Classic Glazed Donuts are incredibly soft, flavorful, and far superior to store-bought versions.

Cooking Method

  1.  In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it stand for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2.  In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  3.  Add the yeast mixture, eggs, butter, and vanilla extract.
  4.  Mix until a soft dough forms, then knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5.  Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1–1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
  6.  Roll the dough to about ½ inch (1.25 cm) thick and cut out donuts using a donut cutter.
  7.  Place the donuts on a parchment-lined tray, cover, and let them rise again for 30–45 minutes
  8.  Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C)
  9.  Fry the donuts for 1–2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  10.  Drain on a wire rack.
  11.  Whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and melted butter until smooth.
  12.  Dip each warm donut into the glaze, allowing the excess to drip off. Let the glaze set for 5–10 minutes before serving.
