Pakistan Aloo Gosht is a classic and comforting curry made with tender mutton or beef, potatoes, tomatoes, onions, and a blend of aromatic Pakistani spices. This traditional dish is a staple in households across Pakistan and is enjoyed for its rich, flavorful gravy and hearty combination of meat and potatoes. Perfect for everyday family meals or special occasions, Aloo Gosht is commonly served with naan, chapati, roti, or steamed basmati rice.

The meat is slow-cooked until tender before potatoes are added to absorb the rich, spiced gravy. Fresh garlic, ginger, tomatoes, coriander, cumin, turmeric, and garam masala create a deeply satisfying flavor, while fresh cilantro and green chilies provide a vibrant finish. Easy to prepare and packed with authentic taste, Pakistan Aloo Gosht is a timeless favorite in Pakistani cuisine.

Cooking Method

  1. Heat the oil or ghee in a large pot and fry the cumin seeds until fragrant.
  2. Add the onions and cook until golden brown.
  3. Stir in the garlic and ginger, then sauté for 1 minute.
  4. Add the meat and cook until browned on all sides.
  5. Mix in the tomatoes, coriander powder, turmeric, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes soften.
  6. Pour in the water, cover, and simmer for 50–60 minutes, or until the meat becomes tender.
  7. Add the potatoes and cook for 20–25 minutes, until the potatoes are soft and the gravy thickens.
  8. Sprinkle the garam masala and simmer for another 5 minutes.
  9. Garnish with fresh cilantro, green chilies, and julienned ginger.
  10. Serve hot with naan, chapati, roti, or steamed basmati rice.
