Pakistani Daal Recipe | Authentic Lentil Curry
Dal is a comforting and nutritious staple in Pakistan. Made with tender lentils simmered with onions, tomatoes, garlic, ginger, and aromatic spices, this traditional Pakistani Daal is rich in flavor, protein, and fiber. Cooking Method
- Rinse the lentils thoroughly until the water runs clear.
- In a pot, combine the lentils, water, turmeric, and a pinch of salt. Cook for 25–30 minutes until soft, or pressure cook for 10–12 minutes.
- Heat the oil in a separate pan and sauté the onion until golden.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and cook for 1 minute.
- Stir in the tomatoes, cumin, coriander, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes soften and the oil begins to separate.
- Add the cooked lentils to the spice mixture and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- For the tempering, heat the ghee in a small pan. Fry the garlic until golden, then add the cumin seeds and red chili flakes.
- Pour the hot tempering over the daal and garnish with fresh cilantro.
- Serve hot with steamed rice, naan, roti, or chapati.
