Suya is a smoky, spicy, and flavorful West African street food made with thinly sliced beef coated in a rich peanut-based spice blend and grilled to perfection. Originating in Nigeria, Suya is one of the region’s most popular grilled meat dishes, loved for its bold flavor, tender texture, and irresistible aroma. 

The beef is marinated with a mixture of ground peanuts, paprika, cayenne pepper, ginger, garlic, and other spices before being threaded onto skewers and grilled over high heat. The result is juicy meat with a slightly charred exterior and a rich nutty-spicy coating. Traditionally, Suya is served with sliced onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, and extra spice mix for added flavor. 

Suya is perfect for barbecues, parties, street food menus, or family meals. Its bold taste and smoky character make it a favorite among grilled meat lovers. 

Cooking Method


  1.  In a bowl, mix peanut powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, ginger, garlic powder, and salt. 
  2.  Coat the beef slices with oil. 
  3.  Rub the spice mixture generously over the beef. 
  4.  Thread the beef onto skewers. 
  5.  Let marinate for at least 30 minutes. 
  6.  Preheat a grill or grill pan. 
  7.  Grill the skewers until cooked through and slightly charred. 
  8.  Turn occasionally for even cooking. 
  9.  Serve hot with sliced onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers.
