Authentic Momo Recipe | Nepali Steamed Dumplings with Chicken or Pork
Momo is a beloved Nepali dumpling made with a thin dough wrapper filled with juicy chicken, pork, or vegetables, then steamed until tender. Popular throughout Nepal, Tibet, and the Himalayan region, Momos are commonly served with a spicy tomato-based dipping sauce known as achar. Soft, flavorful, and packed with aromatic herbs and spices, homemade Momos are perfect as an appetizer, snack, or satisfying main meal.
Cooking Method
- In a bowl, combine the ground meat, onion, garlic, ginger, green onions, cilantro, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper.
- Place about 1 tablespoon of filling in the center of each momo wrapper.
- Moisten the edges with water and pleat the wrapper to seal tightly.
- Arrange the Momos in a lightly greased steamer basket.
- Steam over boiling water for 12–15 minutes, until the filling is fully cooked.
- Blend the roasted tomatoes, chili, garlic, soy sauce, and salt until smooth to make the dipping sauce.
- Serve the hot Momos with the spicy tomato dipping sauce.
