Feijão de Óleo de Palma is a hearty and flavorful bean dish from Angola. Made with beans, red palm oil, onions, tomatoes, and aromatic seasonings, this traditional stew is a staple in many Angolan households. 

The rich, distinctive flavor of palm oil gives the dish its vibrant color and authentic taste. Feijão de Óleo de Palma is often served with rice, Pirão, Funge, or grilled fish and meat. Packed with protein, fiber, and essential nutrients, it is both nutritious and satisfying. 

This comforting bean stew reflects Angola’s rich culinary traditions and is perfect for family lunches, dinners, and special occasions. 

Cooking Method


  1.  Wash the beans thoroughly and soak them overnight. 
  2.  Drain and rinse the beans. 
  3.  Place the beans in a large pot with water. 
  4.  Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 1–1½ hours until tender. 
  5.  In a separate pan, heat the red palm oil over medium heat. 
  6.  Add the onion and sauté until soft. 
  7.  Stir in the garlic and cook for 1 minute. 
  8.  Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until softened. 
  9.  Mix in the paprika, black pepper, bay leaf, and chili pepper if using. 
  10.  Add the cooked beans along with a little of their cooking liquid. 
  11.  Stir well and simmer for 15–20 minutes. 
  12.  Add salt and adjust seasoning to taste. 
  13.  Remove the bay leaf before serving. 
  14.  Serve hot with rice, Pirão, or Funge.
