Authentic Japanese Gyoza Recipe | Crispy Pan-Fried Pork Dumplings
Japanese Gyoza are delicious pan-fried dumplings filled with a savory mixture of ground pork, cabbage, garlic, ginger, and green onions, wrapped in thin dumpling wrappers and cooked until crispy on the bottom and tender on top. These iconic Japanese dumplings are loved for their juicy filling, crispy texture, and flavorful dipping sauce made with soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Cooking Method
- In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, cabbage, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper.
- Place about 1 tablespoon of filling in the center of each gyoza wrapper.
- Moisten the edges with water, fold in half, and seal with pleats.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat.
- Arrange the gyoza flat-side down and cook for 2–3 minutes until the bottoms are golden brown.
- Carefully pour the water into the skillet and immediately cover with a lid.
- Steam for 5–6 minutes, or until the water has evaporated and the filling is fully cooked.
- Remove the lid and cook for another 1 minute to crisp the bottoms.
- Mix the dipping sauce ingredients in a small bowl.
- Serve hot with the dipping sauce, garnished with sesame seeds and green onions.
