Shawarma
Shawarma is a popular Middle Eastern street food made with thinly sliced chicken, beef, or lamb marinated in aromatic spices, yogurt, and lemon juice. Traditionally cooked on a vertical rotisserie, this homemade version is prepared in an oven, grill, or pan while delivering the same juicy, smoky flavor. Shawarma is commonly served in pita bread or wraps with fresh vegetables, garlic sauce, and pickles, making it a delicious meal for lunch or dinner.
Cooking Method
- In a large bowl, combine yogurt, garlic paste, lemon juice, olive oil, shawarma spice mix, and salt.
- Add the sliced chicken and coat it evenly with the marinade.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 2–4 hours, or overnight for the best flavor.
- Heat a grill pan, skillet, or preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).
- Cook the marinated chicken for 15–20 minutes, turning occasionally until fully cooked and lightly charred.
- Slice the cooked chicken into thin strips if needed.
- Warm pita bread or flatbread and fill it with the cooked shawarma, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and garlic sauce.
- Roll the wrap tightly and serve hot with fries, pickles, or a fresh salad.
