Masuku Jam is a delicious homemade preserve made from Masuku fruit, a wild loquat-like fruit commonly found in parts of Zambia. Known for its sweet-tart flavor and fragrant aroma, Masuku fruit is widely enjoyed fresh and is also transformed into flavorful jams, juices, and desserts. 

This traditional jam captures the natural taste of the fruit and is perfect for spreading on bread, toast, scones, and pastries. Cooking Method


  1.  Wash, peel, and remove any seeds from the Masuku fruit. 
  2.  Place the fruit and water in a large saucepan. 
  3.  Cook over medium heat until the fruit softens, about 15–20 minutes. 
  4.  Mash the fruit with a spoon or potato masher. 
  5.  Add the sugar and stir until dissolved. 
  6.  Stir in the lemon juice. 
  7.  Bring the mixture to a gentle boil. 
  8.  Cook for 20–30 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent sticking. 
  9.  Continue cooking until the jam thickens and reaches the desired consistency. 
  10.  Remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly. 
  11.  Pour into sterilized jars and seal tightly. 
  12.  Let the jars cool completely before storing.
