Sweet Potato Bake is a delicious and comforting dish enjoyed in Namibia. Made with tender sweet potatoes, cream, cheese, and aromatic seasonings, this baked casserole is perfect as a side dish or a hearty vegetarian meal. 

Sweet potatoes are widely appreciated for their natural sweetness, vibrant color, and nutritional value. This Namibian-style bake combines creamy textures with a golden baked topping, creating a satisfying dish that pairs wonderfully with grilled meats, roasted vegetables, or festive meals. 

Easy to prepare and packed with flavor, Sweet Potato Bake is a family favorite that brings warmth and comfort to any table. 

Cooking Method


  1.  Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F). 
  2.  Grease a medium-sized baking dish. 
  3.  Peel and slice the sweet potatoes into thin rounds. 
  4.  Arrange half of the sweet potato slices in the baking dish. 
  5.  Sprinkle half of the onion and garlic over the potatoes. 
  6.  Season with salt, black pepper, and paprika. 
  7.  Repeat with the remaining sweet potatoes and seasonings. 
  8.  Pour the cream or milk evenly over the layers. 
  9.  Drizzle with melted butter. 
  10.  Sprinkle the grated cheese on top. 
  11.  Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes. 
  12.  Remove the foil and bake for another 15–20 minutes until golden brown. 
  13.  Let the bake rest for 5 minutes before serving. 
  14.  Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
