Celeriac Steak
Celeriac Steak is a delicious and elegant plant-based dish that transforms humble celeriac (celery root) into a flavorful, satisfying main course. Thick slices of celeriac are gently boiled until tender, then seasoned and pan-seared or roasted to create a beautifully caramelized exterior while maintaining a soft, creamy interior. The naturally nutty, earthy flavor of celeriac pairs wonderfully with garlic, fresh herbs, olive oil, and simple seasonings, making this dish both rustic and refined.
Perfect as a vegan entrée or hearty side dish, Celeriac Steak is low in calories yet rich in fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants. It can be served with creamy mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, grain salads, or a silky mushroom or peppercorn sauce for a restaurant-quality meal. The crisp golden crust contrasts beautifully with the tender center, offering a satisfying texture that even non-vegetarians will enjoy.
Easy to prepare and naturally gluten-free, this versatile recipe is ideal for weeknight dinners, holiday feasts, or special occasions. Whether grilled, roasted, or pan-fried, Celeriac Steak showcases how simple vegetables can become an impressive centerpiece. Garnished with fresh parsley, thyme, or a squeeze of lemon juice, this wholesome dish delivers comforting flavors, elegant presentation, and nourishing goodness in every bite.
Cooking Method
- Peel the celeriac and slice it into 1-inch thick steaks.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the celeriac steaks for 10–12 minutes until just tender. Drain and pat dry.
- In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic, thyme, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Brush both sides of the celeriac steaks generously with the seasoning mixture.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and sear the steaks for 4–5 minutes per side until golden brown and caramelized. Alternatively, roast them in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Transfer the steaks to serving plates and garnish with fresh parsley and a squeeze of lemon juice.
- Serve immediately with roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, grain salads, or your favorite vegan sauce.
