Japanese Yakisoba | Classic Japanese Stir-Fried Noodles
Japanese Yakisoba is a popular and comforting stir-fried noodle dish made with chewy wheat noodles, crisp vegetables, and tender meat tossed in a savory, slightly sweet Japanese-style sauce. Despite its name, Yakisoba traditionally uses wheat-based noodles rather than buckwheat soba noodles. The dish is commonly prepared with pork, but chicken, shrimp, beef, or tofu can also be used.
The noodles are stir-fried over high heat with cabbage, carrots, onions, and other vegetables, allowing them to develop a delicious lightly toasted aroma. A flavorful combination of yakisoba sauce, soy sauce, and Worcestershire-style seasoning coats every noodle beautifully.
Yakisoba is a fantastic quick meal for lunch or dinner and is also popular at Japanese festivals and street-food stalls. Serve it hot with Japanese mayonnaise, bonito flakes, aonori, pickled ginger, or sesame seeds for a classic finishing touch.
