Korean Mandu | Traditional Korean Dumplings

Korean Mandu are delicious dumplings filled with a flavorful mixture of meat, vegetables, tofu, garlic, and aromatic seasonings. They can be steamed, boiled, pan-fried, or deep-fried, making them one of the most versatile and popular comfort foods in Korean cuisine.

This classic version combines ground pork or beef with cabbage, green onions, garlic, ginger, tofu, sesame oil, and soy sauce. The filling is wrapped in thin dumpling wrappers and sealed into neat parcels before cooking. Pan-frying creates a beautifully crisp golden bottom while keeping the filling juicy and tender.

Mandu are perfect as an appetizer, snack, lunch, or light dinner. Serve them hot with a simple soy-vinegar dipping sauce, sliced green onions, sesame seeds, or Korean chili flakes. They can also be added to soups and stews for a heartier Korean meal.

  1.  Finely chop the cabbage and squeeze out as much excess moisture as possible.
  2.  Place the ground meat, cabbage, tofu, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper in a large bowl.
  3.  Mix thoroughly until the filling becomes evenly combined.
  4.  Place one dumpling wrapper in your hand.
  5.  Add about 1 tablespoon of filling to the center.
  6.  Moisten the edge of the wrapper with a little water.
  7.  Fold the wrapper over the filling and press the edges firmly to seal.
  8.  Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  9.  Heat vegetable oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat.
  10.  Arrange the Mandu in a single layer.
  11.  Cook for 2–3 minutes until the bottoms become golden.
  12.  Carefully add ¼ cup water to the skillet.
  13.  Immediately cover with a lid and steam for 5–7 minutes, until the filling is fully cooked.
  14.  Remove the lid and continue cooking for another 1–2 minutes to crisp the bottoms.
  15.  Mix the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and chili flakes for dipping.
  16.  Transfer the Mandu to a serving plate.
  17.  Garnish with sesame seeds or green onions if desired.
  18.  Serve hot with the dipping sauce.
