Potato Fritters Recipe | Crispy Golden Shredded Potato Patties
Potato Fritters are crispy, golden patties made with grated potatoes, onions, fresh herbs, and simple seasonings. Crunchy around the edges and tender inside, these savory potato cakes are easy to prepare and make a delicious breakfast, appetizer, side dish, or snack. The potatoes are combined with flour and eggs to create a light batter, then pan-fried until beautifully golden. Serve them hot with sour cream, garlic aioli, ketchup, or a fresh herb dip for a comforting homemade treat.
Cooking Method
- Peel and grate the potatoes using the large holes of a box grater.
- Place the grated potatoes and onion in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze firmly to remove as much excess moisture as possible.
- Transfer the potatoes and onion to a large bowl.
- Add the eggs, flour, garlic, parsley, salt, black pepper, paprika, and baking powder. Mix until a thick, evenly combined mixture forms.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat.
- Scoop about ¼ cup of the potato mixture into the pan for each fritter and flatten gently with a spoon.
- Cook for 3–4 minutes per side, until the fritters are golden brown and crispy on the outside and cooked through in the center.
- Transfer the cooked fritters to a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain briefly.
- Repeat with the remaining mixture, adding a little more oil to the pan as needed.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot with sour cream, garlic aioli, ketchup, or your favorite dipping sauce.
