Potato Cheese Balls Recipe | Crispy Golden Cheesy Potato Bites
Potato Cheese Balls are crispy, golden bites made with creamy mashed potatoes and a gooey cheese center. Coated in seasoned breadcrumbs and fried until beautifully crisp, these delicious snacks offer a satisfying contrast between a crunchy exterior and soft, cheesy potato filling. Easy to prepare and loved by both kids and adults, Potato Cheese Balls are perfect for parties, appetizers, game nights, lunchboxes, or casual snacking. Serve them hot with ketchup, garlic aioli, ranch dressing, or sweet chili sauce for an irresistible homemade treat.
Cooking Method
- Place the cooled mashed potatoes in a large bowl.
- Add the grated cheddar, flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and chopped parsley. Mix until well combined.
- Take a small portion of the potato mixture and flatten it slightly in your palm.
- Place a cube of mozzarella in the center, then carefully shape the mixture into a sealed ball around the cheese.
- Repeat with the remaining potato mixture and mozzarella, making approximately 18–20 balls.
- Place the flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs in three separate shallow bowls.
- Roll each potato ball first in flour, then dip it into the beaten egg, and finally coat thoroughly with breadcrumbs.
- Refrigerate the coated potato balls for 15 minutes to help them hold their shape during cooking.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep, heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully fry the potato cheese balls in small batches for 2–3 minutes, turning gently, until golden and crisp.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain briefly on a paper towel-lined plate or wire rack.
- Serve immediately with ketchup, garlic aioli, ranch dressing, or sweet chili sauce.
