American Fried Rice Recipe | Easy Classic Chicken Fried Rice
American Fried Rice is a simple, flavorful one-pan rice dish inspired by the popular American-style takeout version of fried rice. Made with fluffy cooked rice, tender chicken, scrambled eggs, colorful vegetables, and savory soy sauce, this quick meal is easy to prepare and perfect for busy weeknights. The rice is stir-fried over high heat to create lightly toasted edges while garlic, onion, and sesame oil add extra aroma and depth. Serve it as a satisfying lunch or dinner, or customize it with shrimp, beef, or additional vegetables for a delicious homemade meal.
Cooking Method
- Use chilled, cooked rice for the best texture. Break up any large clumps before cooking.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the beaten eggs and scramble until just set. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
- Add another tablespoon of oil to the pan. Add the diced chicken and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until fully cooked and lightly browned.
- Add the remaining oil, followed by the onion, carrot, peas, and garlic. Stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
- Add the chilled rice and toss thoroughly with the vegetables and chicken.
- Pour the soy sauce around the hot edge of the pan and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes, allowing the rice to absorb the seasoning.
- Return the scrambled eggs to the pan and add the green onions.
- Drizzle in the sesame oil and season with black pepper and additional salt if needed.
- Stir-fry for another 1–2 minutes, then serve immediately while hot.
