Chocolate Truffles | Classic Rich & Creamy Chocolate Truffle Recipe
Chocolate Truffles are luxurious bite-sized treats made with rich chocolate and silky cream, creating a smooth, melt-in-your-mouth center surrounded by a decadent chocolate coating. These elegant homemade candies are surprisingly simple to prepare and require only a few quality ingredients.
The classic truffle begins with a smooth chocolate ganache made by combining finely chopped chocolate with warm heavy cream and butter. Once chilled and firm, the ganache is shaped into small balls and coated with cocoa powder, melted chocolate, chopped nuts, or shredded coconut. The result is a rich, creamy confection with an intense chocolate flavor and beautifully soft texture.
Chocolate Truffles are perfect for holidays, Valentine's Day, birthdays, dinner parties, dessert tables, homemade gifts, or special occasions. They can also be customized with espresso, orange zest, peppermint, sea salt, or liqueur for different flavor variations.
Cooking Method
- Finely chop the chocolate and place it in a heatproof bowl.
- Heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until steaming but not boiling.
- Pour the hot cream over the chopped chocolate.
- Let it sit for 2–3 minutes.
- Add the butter, vanilla extract, and salt.
- Stir gently until the chocolate melts completely and the ganache becomes smooth and glossy.
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate for 1–2 hours, or until firm enough to scoop.
- Use a small cookie scoop or teaspoon to portion the chilled ganache.
- Roll each portion between your palms to form smooth balls.
- Roll the truffles in cocoa powder, chopped nuts, or shredded coconut.
- For a chocolate-coated version, dip the truffles into melted chocolate and place them on parchment paper.
- Refrigerate for another 15–20 minutes to set the coating.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- Allow the truffles to sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving for the best texture.
