Turkish Pide Recipe | Traditional Turkish Flatbread with Cheese & Meat
Turkish Pide is a traditional boat-shaped flatbread topped with flavorful ingredients such as ground meat, cheese, vegetables, and eggs. Often called Turkish pizza, Pide features a soft, chewy crust with beautifully crisp edges and a savory, richly seasoned topping. This homemade version combines seasoned ground beef, mozzarella, feta, peppers, onions, and tomatoes for a delicious balance of textures and flavors. Baked at high heat until golden and bubbling, Turkish Pide is perfect for lunch, dinner, family gatherings, or a satisfying street-food-style meal.
Cooking Method
- Combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Add warm water and olive oil, then mix into a soft dough.
- Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover and let the dough rise for about 45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C) with a baking tray or pizza stone inside.
- Mix the ground beef, onion, tomato, bell pepper, garlic, tomato paste, spices, salt, olive oil, and parsley until evenly combined.
- Divide the dough into 4 portions. Roll each portion into a long oval.
- Spread the meat mixture over the center, leaving about 1 inch (2.5 cm) around the edges.
- Sprinkle the mozzarella and feta over the topping.
- Fold the dough edges inward and pinch the ends to create the traditional boat shape.
- Carefully transfer each Pide to the hot baking tray or pizza stone.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, until the crust is golden and the topping is fully cooked and bubbling.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot with lemon wedges and sliced red onion.
