Beef Curry Recipe | Rich & Flavorful Homemade Beef Curry
Beef Curry is a rich, aromatic, and comforting dish made with tender beef simmered slowly in a flavorful spiced gravy. The curry combines onions, garlic, ginger, tomatoes, and warm spices to create a deeply savory sauce that coats every piece of beef. Slow cooking allows the meat to become tender while the spices develop a rich and balanced flavor. Perfect served with steamed rice, naan, roti, or paratha, this homemade Beef Curry makes a satisfying lunch or dinner for family meals and special occasions.
Cooking Method
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat.
- Add the optional bay leaves, cardamom, and cloves. Cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the sliced onions and cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until deeply golden.
- Add the garlic, ginger, and green chilies. Cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the beef pieces and brown them on all sides for 6–8 minutes.
- Stir in the coriander, cumin, turmeric, paprika, cinnamon, black pepper, and salt. Cook for 1–2 minutes to toast the spices.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and tomato paste. Cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the tomatoes soften and the oil begins to separate from the sauce.
- Reduce the heat to low. Stir in the yogurt gradually, then add the beef broth or water.
- Bring the curry to a gentle simmer. Cover and cook for 60–75 minutes, or until the beef is tender and the gravy has thickened. Stir occasionally and add a little water if necessary.
- Stir in the garam masala during the final 5 minutes of cooking.
- Taste and adjust the salt and spices as needed.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with basmati rice, naan, roti, or paratha.
