Chicken Chow Mein | Classic Chinese-Style Chicken Noodle Stir-Fry
Chicken Chow Mein is a delicious and satisfying noodle dish made with tender chicken, chewy noodles, crisp vegetables, and a savory stir-fry sauce. The combination of soy sauce, oyster sauce, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil creates a rich, savory coating that brings all the ingredients together. It's perfect for a quick lunch, weeknight dinner, or homemade takeout-style meal.
Cooking Method
- Cook the chow mein noodles according to the package instructions until just tender.
- Drain the noodles and rinse briefly under cold water.
- Toss them with a small amount of oil to prevent sticking.
- Heat a large wok or skillet over high heat.
- Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
- Add the sliced chicken and stir-fry for 4–5 minutes, until cooked through and lightly browned.
- Remove the chicken and set aside.
- Add the remaining oil to the wok.
- Add the onion, carrot, and bell pepper.
- Stir-fry for 2–3 minutes while keeping the vegetables slightly crisp.
- Add the cabbage, garlic, and ginger.
- Cook for another 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
- Return the cooked chicken to the wok.
- Add the cooked noodles.
- Pour the soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, sugar, and white pepper over the noodles.
- Toss everything together over high heat for 2–3 minutes until the noodles are evenly coated.
- Add the bean sprouts and green onions.
- Stir-fry for another 1 minute.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Serve immediately while hot.
