Momo Recipe | Nepali Steamed Chicken Dumplings with Spicy Tomato Chutney
Momo is a beloved Himalayan dumpling traditionally made with a thin flour wrapper and a savory minced filling. This easy chicken version combines ground chicken with onion, garlic, ginger, cilantro, and soy sauce, then steams the dumplings until tender and juicy. Served with a spicy tomato and chili chutney, these Momos are a popular street food and comfort food enjoyed as an appetizer, snack, lunch, or dinner.
Cooking Method
- Mix the flour and salt. Gradually add warm water and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth.
- Cover and rest the dough for 20 minutes.
- Combine the ground chicken, onion, garlic, ginger, cilantro, soy sauce, oil, salt, and black pepper.
- Divide the dough into small pieces and roll each into a thin circle.
- Place about 1 tablespoon of filling in the center of each wrapper.
- Fold and pleat the edges to seal each Momo.
- Arrange the dumplings in a lightly oiled steamer basket.
- Steam for 12–15 minutes, until the wrappers are tender and the chicken is fully cooked.
- Blend the tomatoes, chilies, garlic, lemon juice, and salt into a smooth chutney.
- Serve the hot Momos immediately with the spicy tomato chutney.
