Potato Twisters Recipe | Crispy Spiral Potato Skewers with Seasoning
Potato Twisters are a fun and crispy snack made by cutting whole potatoes into continuous spirals, threading them onto skewers, and frying or baking them until golden and crunchy. Popular at fairs, festivals, food stalls, and casual gatherings, these spiral potatoes are seasoned with paprika, garlic, herbs, and salt for an irresistible savory flavor. Their playful shape makes them especially appealing for parties and snack tables, while their crispy edges and fluffy centers create a delicious contrast. Serve Potato Twisters with ketchup, cheese sauce, ranch dressing, or spicy dipping sauce for a fun homemade treat.
Cooking Method
- Wash and scrub the potatoes thoroughly, leaving the skins on if desired.
- Carefully insert a long wooden skewer through the center of each potato, keeping the skewer as straight as possible.
- Using a sharp knife, carefully cut the potato in a spiral while rotating it along the skewer. Continue cutting until you create one continuous spiral, taking care not to cut all the way through.
- Gently stretch the potato spiral along the skewer to create even gaps between the slices.
- Mix the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper in a small bowl.
- Brush the potatoes lightly with oil and sprinkle generously with the seasoning mixture.
- For oven baking: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Place the skewers on a wire rack over a baking tray and bake for 25–30 minutes, turning once, until golden and crisp.
- For deep frying: Heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Carefully fry the potato spirals one at a time for approximately 4–6 minutes, until golden and crisp.
- Remove the cooked Potato Twisters and drain briefly on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate.
- Sprinkle with Parmesan, parsley, or chili powder if desired.
- Serve immediately with ketchup, ranch dressing, cheese sauce, or sweet chili sauce.
