Homemade Peach Butter is a smooth, fruity spread made by gently cooking ripe peaches with sugar, lemon juice, and a touch of cinnamon until thick, glossy, and full of concentrated peach flavor. Despite its name, peach butter contains no dairy butter. Its naturally velvety texture comes from softened peaches that are blended and simmered until perfectly spreadable.
This delicious summer-inspired spread is wonderful on toast, biscuits, pancakes, waffles, muffins, and freshly baked scones. It can also be stirred into oatmeal, spooned over yogurt, or used as a fruity filling for pastries. With its sweet peach aroma and gentle hint of warm spice, homemade Peach Butter is a lovely way to enjoy ripe seasonal peaches in a simple, versatile condiment.
Cooking Method
- Wash, peel, pit, and chop the peaches into small pieces.
- Place the peaches, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and salt in a heavy-bottomed saucepan.
- Cook over medium-low heat for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the peaches soften and release their juices.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer gently for 30–40 minutes, stirring regularly to prevent sticking.
- Blend the softened peaches with an immersion blender until smooth. Alternatively, carefully blend in batches.
- Return the purée to the saucepan and continue cooking uncovered for 10–15 minutes, stirring frequently, until thick and spreadable.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and taste. Adjust the sweetness or cinnamon if desired.
- Remove from the heat and allow the peach butter to cool.
- Transfer to a clean, airtight container and refrigerate.
- Serve on toast, biscuits, pancakes, waffles, muffins, or scones.
